Polyurea & Polyaspartic Coatings

The resin behind nearly every floor we install. It cures in hours, holds its color in full sun, and flexes with the slab through an Idaho winter.

Polyurea and polyaspartic are the resins behind nearly every system we install. Most customers arrive asking about epoxy, which is understandable because epoxy is the word everyone knows. But in Idaho conditions polyaspartic is usually the better product, and it is what we recommend on most jobs.

It cures in hours, not days

Polyaspartic sets fast enough that a garage can be ground, coated, broadcast, scraped, topcoated, and walked on inside a single day. Epoxy ties up the space for the better part of a week while it cures.

For a homeowner that is the difference between an afternoon of inconvenience and a week of parking on the street.

It holds its color in the sun

Sunlight turns epoxy yellow and chalky, which rules it out for anything outdoors. Polyaspartic is UV stable, and that single property is what makes it usable on patios, pool decks, porches, and walkways as well as inside a garage. It is the reason we can offer one family of finishes across the whole property instead of one product indoors and something else outside.

It moves with the slab

Idaho concrete goes through freeze-thaw cycling every winter. Water gets into the slab, freezes, expands, and the slab moves. Polyaspartic stays slightly flexible after it cures, so it moves with the concrete. Epoxy is harder and more brittle, and brittle loses that fight over time.

The honest tradeoff

Fast cure means very short working time. Polyaspartic goes off quickly and leaves almost no room to correct a mistake once it is on the floor. It is not a forgiving product to install, and that is a real part of why a professional job costs what it does.

What we broadcast into it

On its own, polyaspartic gives you a clean pigmented floor. Most of our jobs add decorative flake or quartz broadcast into the wet base, which is what produces the finished look people picture when they picture a coated floor.

Serving Eagle, Boise, Meridian, Star, Nampa, Caldwell, and Kuna, plus the Magic Valley, McCall, Cascade, and Sun Valley. We travel anywhere in Idaho.

How we build it

A plain pigmented polyaspartic system. Add a flake or quartz broadcast between the base and the topcoat and this becomes our garage or patio system.

Cross-section, not to scale

  1. Diamond grind the slab

The concrete is ground open so the resin bonds mechanically to the slab. No coating outlasts its prep, whatever product goes on top.

  2. Pigmented base coat

Polyaspartic tinted to your color goes down wet and does the work of hiding the concrete underneath.

  3. Optional broadcast layer

This is where decorative flake or quartz is broadcast to rejection and scraped back if you want a decorative finish rather than a solid color.

  4. Clear polyaspartic topcoat

The wear layer. UV stable, chemical resistant, flexible, and cured hard enough to walk on the same day.

How it compares

Polyaspartic is the resin. Flake and quartz are what we broadcast into it. Here is the whole menu side by side, including the one you have probably already heard of.
